Keep Running to the Bus
Trebor finds strength deep within and sprints past the little girl toward the bus. His gaze is transfixed on his mechanical savior while he half expects it to begin driving away without him. One last look behind him shows that while he was able to put some distance between him and the huge dudes, they are still in pursuit.
He zips through a crosswalk and dodges a car rolling through the stop sign. The driver sticks her head out the window and unloads profanities in his direction. Trebor yells, “Sorry,” and continues toward his target. He waves his arms and yells for the bus to wait. With his luck, he figures that it’ll drive off just as he catches up.
Trebor is relieved as he runs alongside the bus to the front door. He bangs on it to get the driver’s attention and the driver points at the sign outside of the bus. It reads, “Not In Service.” His heart drops. He looks back and sees the huge dudes catching up.
He’s done for until a car screeches to a halt. Trebor looks over and it’s a kid from his biology class, Archie.
“What are you waiting for?” he yells. “Hop in.”
In complete desperation, Trebor dives into the vehicle and it screeches away.
“What did you do to those guys?” laughs Archie.
“Shoved a cake in one of their faces.”
They laugh about it on the way home and Archie jokes with Trebor that he owes him one. Trebor requests to be dropped off at the park and says bye to Archie.
He looks over and sees a cute girl, named Yesenia, that he went to his middle school with, holding birthday balloons. She was considered to be a popular girl and he never seemed to come up with a good enough reason to talk to her.
What should Trebor do?
